· Many artists tend to draw and paint, sculpt, …create, as a way of expressing what they want to say but cant, don’t, or don’t know how. Creating works of art is a way of communicating without using words.
· It has been said “a picture is worth a thousand words”, suggesting that “words”--when used only as symbols of communicative language--have their limitations, compared to the potential transfer of information a visual image can convey, for which the possibilities are endless.
· (endless thought/ +universal/ meaning is not limited by “words”)
· But with this series, these “symbols” of conventional language are celebrated as just that--“symbols”. Verbal communication is not necessarily what drives this collaborative body of work: words cease to be colloquial parts of communicative language, and transform into visual lines that stimulate the mind, and in many cases, the memory.
· Even in a world full of technology and progression, sometimes more can be “communicated” through—an expression such as a smile, for example, a feeling, a swatch of color, or a simple line.
· Each word’s representation as it means to language of is no longer relevant, what is relevant is what it means to the viewer. This series, artists J.Taylor and KAT, invite the viewer to abandon the meaning behind the indication; and rather than putting thoughts into words, paint one’s own personal image--using the given “symbols” as tools that stimulate the current experience, or to summon memories of the past.
